ALL BOOK PRICES WILL INCREASE 10%
SOON AND THE AUTHOR-PUBLISHER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO UPDATE
MORE BECAUSE WINDOWS 7 AND THE SERVER MAY NOT SUPPORT
FRONTPAGE (my simple page-making software) AND I DO THIS ON MY OLD
LONG-SICK PC JUST TURNED ON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A YEAR SO
I COULD MENTION THE PRICE CHANGE BEFORE I DO IT. I APOLOGIZE
FOR NOT BEING MORE SPECIFIC. AS I HOPE TO EXPLAIN ELSEWHERE
I AM WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK ON THREE BOOKS DRAWING ON
YEARS OF UNPAID RESEARCH INTO THE BOLD AND COMIC B-SIDE OF
JAPANESE POETRY -- ONCE AGAIN, IN JAPANESE -- AND WILL NOT BE
ABLE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS SITE OR REVISE MY OLD BOOKS,
ETC. UNTIL 2015.  - robin d gill (i do visit my page on Facebook now and then)

The independent publisher Paraverse Press has published 13 books to date (2010 Jan.).  We do not pay a cent to companies offering to enter books into competition for awards or other p.r. gimmicks.  A good book should not have to pay a cent. Like worthy people, good books should be welcome on their own merits. If book review editors do not understand this, they betray their readers, who expect to learn about the best books rather than what publishers push.  And please note that large corporations are not the only problem. Even popular websites not owned by major publishers indirectly favor money over content by asking for a large number of reading copies (30 in the case of a social networking site I otherwise love) no true pauper press (most author-publishers?) can afford. This author-publisher relies upon readers  to publicize his books by word-of-mouth, e-mail, link, reviews, bulletin board and article. Partly for this reason, partly to save trees and partly to give access to the economically handicapped, all our books are 100% readable at Google Books. Please help Paraverse Press take off  and you will be repaid, quickly, with more good but inexpensive books!    - rdg

Individuals should contact Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or their favorite bookstore to place an order.  Please give the store the ISBN#  and inform them that the book’s distributor is Ingram (one with the printer, Lightning Source, but I have no idea who owns whom), and other major distributors. Lightning Source is the world's largest printer (printer-distributor, too?) and the books are  POD, meaning "Print on demand"  (not to be conflated with a type of press for hire called Publish On Demand).  Most university press books are  done POD, with one u.p. alone marking its  10,000th different title printed by Lightning Source.)  Please note that the quality of the printing and  binding is far better than most offset printing (I left a book outside in a thunderstorm and had to pull apart the pages with pins, but it still holds together!) .  As noted above, if you wish to take a close look inside the book before buying, all of ours are 100% viewable at Google Books.

Neophyte clerks in some bookstores may need to be reminded that Lightning Source Print On Demand books are called "back-orders."

If your book store cannot oblige (the book is no return), and/or you do not like on-line buying, I can mail you a copy inside the USA.

If you are in Japan, please try Amazon. Some books will get to you quickly and some will take forever, depending upon whether anyone has ordered enough copies to prime the pump. Were the "Japan Times" to fill a page with reviews of all of our books -- why not? -- within a month Amazon would have a stock of all the books in Japan and you could get any of them quickly.

In the US it will almost surely take you much longer to get them from me than by using Amazon etc. and even longer for me to cash your check, for your author-publisher is stuck out in the woods without a car and rarely gets to the PO or a bank!  He also has no inside space to stack books nor a table clean for wrapping, etc.  When and if he/I return to civilization, and access to the facilities I once took for granted, I will be delighted to mail out personal copies signed, with drawings and maybe even at a better price.

Please note that, if  some day,  I can afford to hire help, these prices will come down:

Rise, Ye Sea Slugs!                                              $30. for students and poor people.   $40. for others.

TOPSY-TURVY 1585                                         $35. for students and poor people.   $50. for others.

Orientalism & Occidentalism                             $16. for students and poor people.    $35. for others.

Fly-ku!                                                                  $20. for students and poor people.    $30 for others.

TOPSY-TURVY 1585 SHORT VERSION        $30. for students and poor people.    $40 for others.

Cherry Blossom Epiphany                                  $35. for students and poor people.    $50 for others.

The Fifth Season                                                 $30. for students and poor people.   $40. for others.

The Woman Without a Hole                               $35. for students and poor people.    $45 for others.

Octopussy, Dry Kidney & Blue Spots (same bk as above)

Mad In Translation                                             $40. for students and poor people.   $50. for others.

Kyôka, Japan's Comic Verse                              $30. for students and poor people.   $40. for others.

A Dolphin In the Woods                                     $30. for students and poor people.   $40. for others.

The Cat Who Thought Too Much                      $40. for students and poor people.   $50. for others.

* The Cat Who is more expensive for the illustrations gave me trouble and the Mad Translation Reader is exceptionally cheap because it would make a damn good textbook, imho.

* Attentive to numbers?  Did you catch the page number and price combination for A Dolphin, suitable for a book of word play?

I will sign each book and perhaps make a few corrections.  Paraverse Press has a permanent address but circumstances took me (robin d gill) elsewhere. Please contact me at info at paraverse dot org or uncoolwabin at hotmail dot com and I will send you my snail-mail address, which is a house in the country at present. Sometimes I can only get to the PO once a month.  Likewise for cashing checks, it takes me forever, so until my circumstances improve, I would prefer you to buy the books online. As an author-publisher, I get well paid well enough for each copy sold.  Then, write me and I will send signatures and other goodies (if you think notes for the book etc are goodies) to you -- for i can slip an envelope into the PO box by merely crossing a railroad track.

Any additional donation is welcome; your author-publisher may be rich in ideas but his bank account says he is what used to be called a pauper. Good work takes time and that takes money.  Please see our patrons of paraverse press page.

Bookstores should contact Ingram or other wholesalers that deal with Lightning Source (my printer-distributor) for wholesale orders.
The wholesale discount is generally 40%, but O&O, as the tiniest book is 50%, while Cherry Blossom Epiphany is expensive enough that the bookstore will make profit enough for anyone with a conscience at 36%. If you have problems, call me and I'll contact my printer-distributor. Please contact me at  uncoolwabin at hotmail dot com. Or, telephone me at area code 352 + tel. number 472-2217.

The books are not returnable because we do not have the wealth to risk having them  returned by bookstores with the wrong patrons. Bookstore owners might examine our work, my books, at Google Books where they are 100% viewable.  You will note our bilingual content and the appearance of the books is equivalent to those usually sold for two or three times our price by traditional presses, so your patrons will be delighted (and even surprised) to find them at decent prices. If you cater to true bibliophiles, you will gain many brownie points by stocking paraverse books.

Large Direct Orders from Universities,* Library Systems, other Organizations or People who order Xmas presents by the box may obtain a discount.   I can make a direct short-order from Lightning Source to send the box directly to you within a week or so. Please contact me at info at paraverse dot org  and cc to  uncoolwabin at hotmail dot com. Or, telephone me at area code 352 + tel. number 472-2217.

*Abracadabra, Ivory Tower! So far, paraverse press books have been used for courses at City University of New York (Rise, Ye Sea Slugs!), Smith (Orientalism & Occidentalism) and Univ of Wisconsin in Madison (Octopussy, Dry Kidney & Blue Spots).  I hope other professors and universities will be broad-minded enough to judge books on their content and, provided they are informative and entertaining,  use them in courses, regardless of the author's position, press's reputation and book's style.
